Some of the most beautiful examples of indigo are found in West Africa, where the secret of indigo making is closely guarded and passed down like gold. Each piece in the Indigo Collection is named for a different waterway of Ivory Coast. Sassandra River is distinguished by its vertical white stripes, which have a dry, powdery appearance, as though drawn in chalk, with a rhythm very delicately stated in faint horizontal strokes. It comes either as a panama weave in linen and cotton, or in a beautiful Italian linen voile with a lovely hang.
