Volta

The indigo blue has always played such a key part in the collection that two indigo solids, Kariba and Volta were introduced into the collection to tie all the different patterns together. This magic hue was a mysterious and highly valuable skill passed on by specialist dyers from generation to generation. Indigo in West Africa was obtained from local plant sources, either indigofera or lonchocarpus cyanescans. Transforming the raw material into a successful dye vat was a complex process requiring great expertise and liable to unexplained failure. Kariba and its little brother Volta are very faithful in their rendering of this long tradition. Volta is a medium weight cloth with a smooth surface more adapted to curtains and lighter seating.
