Inspired by the illustrations of the 17th-century botanist and entomologist Maria Sybilla Merian, who travelled to Suriname and documented hundreds of species of insects and their food flowers. Unlike others in this collection, the bees in this design are layered one upon the other as in a beehive, setting off the matt-white and silver-grey patterns of the wings against the dimmed gold sheen of the background. It will warm up even a north-facing room beautifully and its effect is deceptively gentle.
