Tiger in the Night came to life following a request for a nocturnal forest with golden leaves and a sense of the Byzantine. When stripes were added to the leaves they suddenly resembled the stripes of a tiger and brought to mind the fearful symmetry of William Blake’s poem, which in turn suggested the idea of the eyes burning in the night. This design is also available in a version without eyes.
